Did you know that urban parks and gardens play a crucial role in saving bees? Beyond producing honey, bees pollinate the flowering plants that keep our urban gardens and parks flourishing. At the same time, bees need the abundant pollen from our cities to survive. We sat down with Diego Toledo, a professional beekeeper from Api Urbana Valencia, whose workshops educate citizens on the importance of bee conservation. According to Diego, urban areas are actually a haven for bees. While rural bees often struggle due to fewer flowers and harsher conditions, urban bees thrive thanks to the diverse range of pollinator plants in city parks and urban gardens. That’s why Api Urbana has built 25 beehives throughout the city of Valencia and nearby agricultural areas. The result? Blooming gardens, larger harvests, and thriving bee populations in a city committed to connecting people with nature. Thanks to Api Urbana, Valencia is paving the way to a healthier urban landscape, supported by new municipal regulations to protect bees.
