Restore and protect should be our motto. Disappointingly, the new legislation aimed at protecting and restoring natural ecosystems faced insufficient support during the final stages of approval by the EU Council. This law is crucial because nearly 81% of Europe’s natural habitats, including forests, grasslands, wetlands, rivers, lakes, and seabeds, are in poor condition due to environmental damage from human activity and climate change. In response, the EU created the Nature Restoration Law to facilitate long-term recovery. Notably, projects like Ireland’s ‘Living Bog’ are restoring peatlands, which play a vital role in combating climate change by absorbing and storing carbon while supporting rich biodiversity. Similarly, Posidonia beds along the Mediterranean coast capture carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests. 🤞 Fingers crossed for the law approval. 👉 Follow our channel and comment below! 🔎 Sources: @ourplanet_eu / @iucn_congress / ESG Today
